How to build a backyard water storage tank? Need plans to make from scratch to use in case of disaster.? - backyard storage buildings

I live in the desert in Southern California, and often save for a reservoir of water, but how? I know you can buy plastic tanks, but they are expensive to transport. I saw the metal round, but there are plans to make your own? Do I need a platform? What is the floor level should be? How do I keep out of dirt? How much water to support a family of 4 say drink for a week and clean? Do I need a bomb, too? I know that thousands of people on the water tanks for the others depend, buy a plastic tank of luxury, but someone has instructions on how to do it myself.
